Why I collect and use your information.

I collect and use personal information where it is necessary to respond to enquiries, arrange consultations and appointments, provide counselling and psychotherapy services, maintain appropriate clinical and administrative records, manage payments and meet my professional, ethical and legal responsibilities.

The lawful basis I rely upon will depend on why the information is being processed. This may include taking steps at your request before entering into a therapeutic contract, fulfilling our therapeutic contract, complying with legal obligations and pursuing legitimate interests in the safe and effective administration of my practice.

Where special category information is processed, an additional condition under UK data protection law will also apply.

Confidentiality and sharing information.

Information you share with me is treated confidentially in accordance with my professional and ethical responsibilities.

There are, however, circumstances in which confidentiality may need to be broken, for example where there is a legal requirement to disclose information or where there is a serious risk of harm. Wherever possible and appropriate, I would aim to discuss this with you first.

I may discuss my clinical work in professional supervision. This forms part of safe and ethical therapeutic practice and identifying information is kept to a minimum.

I will not sell your personal information or use it for unrelated marketing purposes.

I retain personal information only for as long as it is reasonably required for the purpose for which it was collected and to meet my professional, insurance and legal obligations.

Enquiries that do not result in therapeutic work will not be retained longer than necessary.

Clinical records will be retained securely for the period required by my professional and insurance obligations and will then be securely destroyed.
