Hi, I'm Katrina
My journey as a therapist has been shaped by both my professional and personal experiences. I initially began training as a mental health nurse, and although life took me in a different direction, my compassion for others and an interest in understanding people and their experiences, never left me. Through my work across different mental health settings, volunteering and supporting people through difficult times, I developed a deeper appreciation of how differently we all experience life and the challenges it can bring.
My experience of therapy came from my own personal difficulties, which included childhood trauma, family relationship difficulties, leaving home, and later addiction and family estrangement. My lived experiences have influenced my approach, and the therapist I am today, in understanding the courage it can take to seek support, and the importance of feeling safe enough to be yourself.
My own experience of therapy supported me in being heard and understood. It helped me make sense of parts of my life that had always felt confusing. Having that opportunity, plays a part in how I practice as a therapist today. To be heard, understood and validated are core principle in my practice. As a therapist I continue personal therapy, which I believe is important for my own personal growth, alongside my professional development.
You might have been holding things together for a long time, putting on a brave face or carrying more than those around you realise. Perhaps you find it difficult to make sense of how you feel, or you’ve become so used to getting through each day that you haven’t had the space to stop and think about what you need.
Whatever has brought you here, you don’t have to have all the answers, explain everything perfectly or face things alone.
Therapy offers a space where you can come as you are, with whatever you’re feeling. There is no right or wrong way to feel, and all emotions deserve to be acknowledged, not pushed aside or judged. I will sit alongside you through the difficult feelings, offering support and understanding without pressure or expectation. We will work at your pace, making room for whatever comes up, even when things feel painful or difficult to put into words.
Healing doesn’t mean forgetting what has happened or pretending that things haven’t hurt. It begins with allowing ourselves to acknowledge our experiences, make sense of our feelings and give ourselves the understanding we may have needed all along. When we begin to face our pain, rather than simply finding ways to get through it, we can gradually find a way forward.
Together, we can work towards a place where life feels less about surviving and more about living, with greater self-understanding, confidence and a sense of possibility.
My Approach
As a therapist, I will meet you with kindness, curiosity and compassion. Therapy will always be at a pace that is comfortable for you.
My approach is both integrative and relational, with person-centred therapy at its heart. I believe that everyone is unique, and that therapy is most effective when it reflects your individual needs, experiences and circumstances. I draw on different therapeutic approaches to find what works best for you,
My role is to offer a supportive, non-judgemental space, helping you to develop a greater understanding of yourself, and to build confidence in your ability to navigate life's challenges in finding a way forward that feels right for you.
