Please discuss this with me in the consultation.

What happens in the initial consultation?

This is an opportunity for us to briefly discuss what has brought you to therapy, and for you to ask any questions. It also gives us both the opportunity to determine if working together is the best choice for you, and it allows me to consider whether I have appropriate experience to support you.

If I feel that your needs would be better met met by a therapist with specialist training or expertise in a particular area, I will discuss this with you and, where possible, signpost you to appropriate specialist support.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no fixed number.

Everyone who comes to therapy is different and your therapy is tailored to you, your needs, and the reasons you are seeking support.

I offer short term, medium term and long term therapy.

If you are looking for short term therapy, I generally recommend  8 weekly sessions.. This gives us time to  build a therapeutic relationship, explore the issues that have brought you to therapy, and begin meaningful work together.

We can review how things are progressing and decide together whether to end therapy or continue with further sessions.

If you decide you need medium or long term therapy, we will review our work together regularly. This will give us an opportunity to reflect on your journey so far, consider what has been helpful, explore anything you may want to approach differently, and ensure that continuing therapy still feels right for you.

The choice is always yours.

How do I pay for sessions?

Payment is required 24 hours before the session by bank transfer.

If payment is not made, I will assume you no longer require the session, and it will be cancelled.

Missed or sessions cancelled outside of this will be charged at the full rate.

Payment details will provided when you have confirmed your session.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I require at least 24 hours notice, as I will be unable to offer the session to someone else at such short notice.

Sessions cancelled outside of this will be charged at full rate.

However, I understand that unexpected circumstances do occur and any exceptional situations will be considered with understanding and on an individual  basis. .

Is everything confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a fundamental part of therapy, and creating a safe, trusting space is important to my practice.

There are, however, a small number of exceptions. If I believe that you or someone else is at serious risk of harm, or there are serious concerns about your safety or someone else's, or where I have safeguarding concerns about a child or a vulnerable adult, I may need to share relevant information with appropriate services.

Wherever possible, I will always aim to discuss this with you first before sharing information.

As a registered member of the BACP, I also work with a qualified clinical supervisor. This is a professional requirement that helps ensure I provide safe, ethical and effective therapy. Any discussions in supervision are confidential, and your identity is always protected.

Can therapy be adapted to my individual needs?

Yes. I recognise that people experience and engage with therapy in different ways. Whether you are Neurodivergent, living with a disability, or simply have particular preferences about how we may work together, I will try to adapt my approach where possible so that therapy feels safe, accessible and suited to your individual needs.

The Therapy room in York is accessed  by stairs and unfortunately does not currently have step-free access. If this would make attending in person difficult for you, online or telephone sessions are also available.

Is the therapy room accessible?

If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I require at least 24 hours notice, as I will be unable to offer the session to someone else at such short notice.

Sessions cancelled outside of this will be charged at full rate.
